Missouri Real Estate State Requirements

The information contained below is designed to provide a summary of the minimum education, experience, and examination requirements established by the Missouri Real Estate Commission.

The information provided below can be found on the Commission's website. However, we recommend you contact the Real Estate Commission for more detailed information and for any changes which may have occurred.

Sales Prelicense

  • Successfully complete an approved 48 hour Salesperson Pre-Examination Course prior to the date of state examination and no more than 6 months prior to submitting application.
  • Pass a course final exam with a score of at least 70%.
  • Must pass both the national and state portions of the required exam after successfully completing the Salesperson Pre-Examination Course and
  • Successfully complete an approved 24 hour Missouri Real Estate Practice Course completed after successful completion of the "Sales Pre-Examination Course."

Broker Prelicense

  • Produce a certificate from the applicant’s broker(s) stating that the applicant has been actively engaged in the real estate business as a licensed salesperson for at least 2 years immediately preceding the application date; AND
  • Produce a certificate from a Commission accredited school that the applicant has, within 6 months prior to the application date, successfully completed an approved 48 hours "Broker Pre-Examination Course."
  • Must pass both the national and state portions of the required exam after successfully completing the Broker Pre-Examination Course.

Continuing Education

  • Complete 12 hours of state approved courses every 2 years.
  • These courses must include 3 hours of Mandatory courses
  • For the 2010 renewal period, the Core course is "Representation Options in the State of Missouri"
  • The other 9 hours are elective courses
  • Continuing education courses require that you pass a course final exam with a grade of at least 70%
  • Broker licensees renew in every even-numbered year by June 30th . Salesperson licensees renew in every even-numbered year by September 30th .
