Oregon Real Estate State Requirements
The information contained below is designed to provide a summary of the minimum education, experience, and examination requirements established by the Oregon Real Estate Agency.
The information provided below can be found on the Agency's website. However, we recommend you contact the Real Estate Agency for more detailed information and for any changes which may have occurred.
Broker Licenses:
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Must complete 150 hours of education that consist of the following modules:
- Oregon Real Estate Practice (30 hours)
- Real Estate Law (30 hours)
- Real Estate Finance (30 hours)
- Contracts (15 hours)
- Agency (15 hours)
- Property Management (10 hours)
- Real Estate Brokerage (20 hours)
- Successfully pass the state licensing exam
- Pass the required background check
- Submit an application and associated fees
Broker Post License Education Requirement:
- All brokers who receive their first Oregon real estate license after July 1, 2002, must complete an Agency approved 30 hour Advanced Real Estate Practices course before their first active license renewal. (Principal Brokers, Sole Practitioner Brokers, and Property Managers are not required to take this course)
- Although the Advanced Real Estate Practices course requirement is separate from continuing education requirements, a principle Broker may permit affiliated Brokers to use this course to meet the CE requirements.
Continuing Education:
- Complete 30 hours of state approved courses every 2 years,
- At least 15 hours must be in one or more of the following topics:
- Trust Accounts
- Misrepresentation
- Anti-Trust
- Rule and Law Update
- Property Management
- Commercial Brokerage and Leasing
- Real Estate Taxation
- Agency
- Fair Housing
- Contracts
- Evaluation of Property
- Brokerage Management
- Land
- Business Ethics
- Licensees can not receive credit for taking the dame course more than once within the same two year licensing period.
Sales agents renew every two years in the month of their birth.
