Pennsylvania Real Estate State Requirements

The information contained below is designed to provide a summary of the minimum education, experience, and examination requirements established by the Pennsylvania Real Estate Commission.

However, we recommend you contact the Real Estate Commission for more detailed information and for any changes which may have occurred.

Salesperson Pre-license

  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Have successfully completed 60 hours in real estate instruction as prescribed by the commission.
  • Pass an end of course proctored final examination with a score of 70%
  • Pass the state salesperson licensing examination with a score of 70%

Salesperson First Time Renewal Requirement

  • As of the 2008-2010 renewal cycle, all Salespersons who are renewing for the first time are required to complete 2 separate 7 hour courses which include:
    • General Module - required of any standard salesperson taking CE for the first time AND
    • Commercial Module - Salesperson can elect to take this Module for the remaining 7 hours OR
    • Residential Module - Salesperson can elect to take this Module for the remaining 7 hours

Broker Pre-license

  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Must be a high school graduate or shall produce proof satisfactory to the commission of an education equivalent thereto.
  • Have successfully completed 240 hours in real estate instruction as prescribed by the rules of the commission.
  • Pass an end of course proctored final examination with a score of 70%
  • Have been engaged as a licensed real estate salesperson for at least three years or possess educational or experience qualifications which the commission deems to be the equivalent thereof.
  • Pass the state broker licensing examination with a score of 70%

Continuing Education

  • Complete 14 hours of commission approved continuing education courses on May 31st of even number years .
