Washington Home Inspection State Requirements

Does this state require Home Inspectors to be licensed?

Beginning July 1st, 2009, Washington will begin to issue licenses for home inspectors. If you are new to the profession since June 12, 2008, you will not be eligible to apply for your license until you meet all instruction and training requirements, plus take and pass the state approved exam.

Are there any educational requirements to be licensed?

Yes, all home inspectors must complete 120 hours of approved education.

Is there a state exam requirement to be licensed?

Yes, all licensees must pass the Board approved exam. (The exam is expected to be ready by May 1, 2009).

Are there any experience requirements to be licensed?

Yes, all licensees must complete 40 hours of field training supervised by a license home inspector in good standing.

When do the license expire?

Licenses expire every two years from the date of issuance.

Are there any Continuing Education requirements to renew a license?

It is expected that licensees will be required to complete 24 hours of continuing education within the renewal cycle. However, this information may change.
